Since the Microsoft-Nokia acquisition was finalised three
months ago, Microsoft has started rolling out phones on Android in
Nigeria. Nokia XL was launched recently and since then, there have been
talks of an improved second-generation Nokia X phones which are growing
stronger globally.
According to the Inquirer, Nokia XL
is new and exciting. “Nokia has done something different, and it has
done it well. The user interface is intuitive and looks great, while
Nokia has ensured that despite lacking Google Play store access, the
device has a decent selection of apps, albeit mainly ones that are Nokia
 branded.”
The
Verge’s review is no different. It thinks the Nokia XL is perhaps the
best phone for Skyping and video calling. “Nokia’s XL takes a slightly
different approach, with a 5-inch display and a combination of a
5-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front-facing one. Nokia is
positioning the XL as “great for Skype”.
The main
attraction on the Nokia XL is its operating system according to
TechRadar. “It’s operating system is built on the Android open source
platform, although the heavy modification it’s undergone means it’s
unrecognisable in terms of any Google affiliation.”
Users
have lauded Nokia XL for its high reception and call quality service as
well as its display, extremely long battery life, quality camera,
design, portability, durability and ecosystem friendliness.
In
terms of specifications Nokia XL arrives with a 1GHz dual-core
Snapdragon processor, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, 5MP rear
camera and a 2MP front facing snapper.
With a 5-inch
display the Nokia XL dwarfs the 4-inch X and X+, but with a quoted price
of around N28,000, you’ll struggle to find a smartphone this size for
less.
